Come and work with real archaeologists!
This is an exciting opportunity for children to explore the history of Sunderland from Roman times through to the industrial development of the river and city
When – 23rd October to the 3rd November
Where – Ferry Boat Lane, south of Wessington Way, North Hylton
What – We will be field walking and metal detecting, and excavating test pits on the site of cropmarks
Why – to identify crop marks seen across the field in an aerial photograph
The first phase of the project at South Hylton in mid-August revealed evidence of the local industrial past of North and South Hylton, and lots of pottery!
